Stella Redman MA, MSc, BA
Psychologist & Counsellor

My background and interests
I hold an MSc in Psychology with Distinction from St Mary’s University, London, alongside qualifications in counselling skills and counselling children and young people. My experience includes supporting people through mental health crisis services and the Shout crisis text line in the UK.
My MSc research explored the experiences of women caring for partners after stem cell transplants. Having supported my husband through his own transplant, I wanted to understand more deeply how partners experience the uncertainty, responsibility and changes that serious illness brings.
I also live with supraventricular tachycardia (SVT), which informs my interest in the emotional impact of unpredictable health conditions. These experiences give me a personal connection to this work, while leaving room for each person’s experience to be different.
As a mother of three, I understand the wish to get parenting “right”, and how challenging it can be to respond to your children’s needs while recognising your own feelings and limits.
What I can help with
I have a particular interest in self-worth, relationship patterns and the ways earlier experiences influence life today. My areas of work include:
-
Anxiety, perfectionism, self-doubt and self-criticism
-
Relationship difficulties, communication and boundaries
-
Parenting concerns and family relationships
-
Grief, loss and life transitions
-
Expat life, cultural adjustment, identity and belonging
-
The effects of painful childhood experiences
-
Emotional support for people living with SVT
-
Support for partners and family caregivers during serious illness
What it’s like to work with me
My style is warm, engaged and collaborative. I listen carefully, ask questions and share observations. Where helpful, I may gently challenge a familiar belief or help you notice a pattern that is keeping you stuck. You are welcome to question my observations and tell me what does or does not feel helpful.
I work integratively, drawing on person-centred, psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioural, attachment-based and systemic approaches. Our conversations may involve understanding earlier experiences, exploring difficult feelings or finding practical ways to approach current challenges.
I am a member of the BPS, NIP and LVSC, and support my practice through regular supervision and ongoing training. Curiosity remains at the heart of my work: I want to understand your experience, rather than assume I already know it.
About me
Welcome. I’m Stella, a psychologist and counsellor working with adults, couples and families in The Hague and online, in English and Russian.
I was born in Turkmenistan, and life has since taken me to France, Singapore, the UAE, Malaysia, the UK and now the Netherlands. Living across cultures has shaped both who I am and how I work. I know something of starting again, leaving a career behind, raising children between languages and cultures, and searching for a sense of belonging.
Before training in psychology and counselling, I worked in the humanitarian and corporate sectors. My interest in people, their relationships, inner lives and ways of navigating difficulty, eventually led me to change direction and pursue the work I had long wanted to do.
